Dock Diving

dock-divingA dog sport in which dogs compete for distance or height following a jump from a dock into a body of water, dock diving first appeared in the late 1990’s the object being to retrieve or go after the toy.  The jump counts regardless of whether or not the dog retrieves the toy – all the dog has to do is jump into the water.  Through the North America Diving Dogs  (NADD) dogs can get titles by competing in dock distance or height jumping just as they do in obedience or agility.  In addition, AKC recognizes all NADD titles earned by registered dogs.

While not typically something that German Shepherds instinctively do – following a lure or toy into a body of water to retrieve or chase a toy – many of our GSDs love and excel at this activity.
