Barn Hunt
Barn Hunt, a relatively new and upcoming dog sport activity, gives our German Shepherd dogs a little break from their traditional jobs such as obedience, herding, search and rescue, service and therapy work, and they seem to look at this as a game. Again they’re able to use their amazing noses to find live critters in a barnyard like setting. Based on the traditional roles of many breeds ridding farms, barns, crop and storage areas of destructive vermin, Barn Hunt tests a dog’s ability to find live rats (safely sealed in aerated tubes) hidden in and around bales of hay.
Needless to say our GSDs excel at and enjoy this task as it’s absolutely FUN for both humans dogs! Barn Hunt has titles, levels of increasing difficulty and championships. While it is an independent sport sponsored by the Barn Hunt Association, all titles are recognized by both the American Kennel Club (AKC) and the United Kennel Club (UKC).
